Engaging Online Students with Case Studies
Christine Marles, Quality Consultant, eCampusAlberta
Case studies are an effective strategy to engage students in online courses. You can use cases to provide concrete situations that stimulate analysis, critical thinking, reflection and step-by-step planning. You can design case studies for both new and more seasoned students. Because case studies require active learning, students are more motivated and excited by the activity.
In this session, we will explore the benefits of using case studies, the characteristics of case studies, how to find and adapt them, how to prepare for using case studies and how you can assess them. You'll come away with additional resources you can use later.
